I like to write software which is useful to the end-user with an appropriate user interface.
What else can I do:
I can
- use Visual Basic
- manage people
- trouble shoot
- solve problems
Where I have worked:
I have worked at OPCOM in Brisbane. OPCOM is an operations research company which was instrumental in making bus timetables in Brisbane much more efficient. I was involved in a MS Visual C++ project, which printed the timetables for distribution to the public. The application was to be used by ex-bus drivers with little or no computer knowledge. The principal challenge of the project was to make the application user-friendly for the end users. I was involved in the entire software development cycle including requirements analysis, overall user interface design, internal design, implementation, testing and documentation until commissioning.
I have worked at Express Promotions in Geelong. Express Promotions is a printing company whose clients have large amounts of data to be printed and posted (e.g. local council rate notices). I worked on a project which used MS Visual Basic, MS Access, and SQL database interface, as well as some C++. My role included teaching and mentoring less experienced software developers.
I continue to perform contract work with Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney. I completed my Masters in Engineering Science (Biomedical Engineering) from UNSW while working in the Biomedical Engineering department at RNSH. My thesis was a database design and user interface implementation for recording routine maintenance testing on the 6000 items of equipment throughout 6 hospitals in the Northern Sydney Area Health Service. I have also been involved in other aspects of the software used in the department, tracking repairs, loan equipment, stock items. As well as FoxPro I used MS Access.
On completing my degrees in Science and Engineering from University of Sydney, I worked at OTC, the overseas telecommunication commission. That company has since merged with Telstra. I worked in the R&D section and researched X.400 and X.500 software applications. I used C++.
My Qualifications:
1994: Masters of Engineering Science (Biomedical Engineering), University of New South Wales
1989: Bachelor of Electrical Engineering (Honours I), University of Sydney. My final year thesis was "Macromodel of a current-feedback amplifier ". I later presented a paper based on my thesis at the IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems, May 1990.
1987: Bachelor of Science, University of Sydney. My major subjects: Pure Mathematics and Computer Science.
